I can't thank Doug enough for his support during one of the most difficult times in my life. His feedback was gentle, kind, and caring, but yet to the point, which was exactly what I needed. The environment that was created in our sessions was safe and comfortable, I never felt like I couldn't say what was on my mind, or both laugh and cry. I left our time together with some new tools added to my toolbox to help me tackle difficult situations, and in a very good place to take on whatever comes next. I'll always be grateful.

C & J

My husband and I have worked with Doug for the past two years. As a direct result of our work with Doug, we have experienced positive change in our relationship far beyond what I thought was possible. We have gained insights and skills and much of our marriage is now entirely new.

Before we started therapy, I was worried that a therapist would take sides. Doug holds a space that is pristinely non-judgmental, where both of our points of view are entirely valid. When Doug helps us to navigate our key challenges, there is somehow room for all perspectives, and also all kinds of possibilities—like alternative ways of seeing, as well as multiple solutions. That had not been happening when we tried to navigate these challenges on our own at home. Another huge benefit we have gained from working with Doug is that we have developed better communication skills. Doug is a remarkably honest, direct and clear communicator and as a result, it seems we are all the time more and more able to communicate effectively on our own.

Obviously, it is critical to trust your therapist. I have recommended Doug to dear friends because he is really good at what he does, and I know him to be impeccably trustworthy, respectful and professional, as well as genuinely warm and friendly. I also recommend working with Doug because the time and money spent has been an excellent investment in the health of our family. Even if we had decided to separate, I know the clarity and skills we gained would have been worth it. As it stands, this work has allowed my husband and me to stay together, and our kids are thriving in a home that is more peaceful. I am so grateful that after years of repeating painful patterns, we have been able to follow Doug’s lead towards a creative, productive place, where new things are possible.

M & T

I always experienced our sessions very positively. I know once or twice we arrived without a specific concern we wanted to discuss, but felt that there were definitely still things to discuss, and I felt that Doug was  great at probing to find out what they were.

Doug always provided a very supportive environment. We always felt safe to explore thoughts and feelings even if we felt they may not be agreeable.

We found working with you to be a helpful experience and are still using some of the tools we discussed like talking about our good and bad things at the end of each day.

C & H

A good couples therapist reflects back, to both members of a couple, a true understanding of their relationship. It is like carefully holding an "angled mirror" in such a way, that each participant can see herself/himself, while also, at critical moments, being able to see his or her partner in a new light.  Doug holds the "angled mirror" of therapy with great empathy and clarity.

Doug is a keen observer and a perceptive listener. His response to issues we raised was reflective and respectful, making for a safe environment for us to explore and improve our communication with each other. Our sessions with Doug were very helpful.
